About the film
A warm-hearted, sincere, family animation with a great story that unfolds in a fantasy world – the Moominvalley. Moomintroll won’t hibernate. This year he wants to explore the winter and expects a very misterious guest called Christmas to visit the Moominvalley!
This winter is extraordinary. Moomintroll decides to stay awake to explore the winter instead of having his winter slumber as usually. Winter is certainly totally different than he had imagined. Strangest creatures wander amidst the snowdrifts while midwinter darkness surrounds the Moominvalley. Moreover, an eccentric guest is soon to appear. This guest requires many measures, and is called Christmas, an astounded Moomintroll is told.

The presentation of the characters
Is always curious to find out new things and to see new places. He is excited about any possible adventure. He is not afraid of the unknown, though he sometimes can be a little insecure – after all he is still quite young. He is a courageous troll with his keen sense of exploration and fun. Moomintroll lives life to the fullest, and views the world with a feeling of wonderment. As gullible as he is enthusiastic, he is also naive and extremely good-natured.
Gentle Moominmamma always has a kind and encouraging word for her son, Moomintroll, as well as for everyone else. She is wise, has the solution for any problem, and remains calm even during the worst of disasters. The Moomin family and their friends often get to enjoy Moominmamma’s great cooking. Sensible Moominmamma always carries around a bag with all her essentials.
Moominpappa remains responsible, wise and devoted to his family – as long as he regularly gets to visit his beloved sea. Knowledgeable Moominpappa is not shy on giving advice, but in the end he believes that experiencing things yourself is the best way to learn.
Too-Ticky, a friend of the family, craftswoman and practical philosopher. Unlike Moointrolls she doesn’t hibernate. Every year she spends wintertime in the Moomin family’s bathinghouse. She lives there with invisible shrews who keep her company. Too-Ticky is a knowledable woman and always knows the solution to all sorts of problems, that is why Moomintroll often seeks her advice.
The name Little My means the smallest of all things. Despite her size, Little My is spunky and bold: she doesn’t care a whit what others say about her. She is fiercely independent. Little My brashly speaks her mind and does as she pleases – which is often the opposite of what she’s told to do. Little My is always either happy or angry, but never sad.
Many Hemulens have somewhat obsessive personalities: they devote themselves to one interest at a time, whether it be skiing, stamps, butterflies, or whatever happens to intrest them. Their hobbies make them forget everything else around them, making them also often oblivious to the feelings and opinions of others. Healthy Hemulen is all about the wintersports.
Fillyjonk does not have a single moment of fantasy or joy, only duties and discipline; she is an extremely methodical person tied down with principles and has a deep rooted belief in prestige and tradition. Nevertheless, once, after a catastrophe, Fillyjonk can be freed from the trammels of social expectation and can discover the joys of freedom, irrationality and self-expression. Deep inside she has had a wish to live freely as the Moomin family does, without any worries.

We like to be different and to think out-side-the-box; and we like to develop concepts others have not thought of. Among the firsts, already in 2007, we started to restore, renovate and develop an earlier produced animation master-piece. Later such companies as Warner Brothers and Disney followed in our footsteps with productions like Charlie Brown and Cinderella. The master-piece Filmkompaniet restored and developed is a Finnish heritage Brand The Moomins, a real vintage-collection with zestful, high-profile, and elegant looks, which we highly improved from the original produced by the Oscar winning studio Se-Ma-For back in the 1970/80ies. This work has so far resulted in a 78 part TV-series in HD, and two movies. The latter movie Moomins and the Comet Chase was the first Scandinavian 3D-movie with talents like Björk (title song), Max von Sydow, Alexander Skarsgård, Mads Mikkelsen, Stellan Skarsgård and Peter Stormare in the voice cast. The film was in distribution in about 100 countries including USA, France, Japan, China, Brazil.
Now we have new things too, on our minds, you will hear about them soon…
Filmkompaniet was founded in 2003 by Tom Carpelan, and is specialized in children’s films and in branding. Distribution of children’s films through DVD and TV-channels in Scandinavia has been one of the main areas as also, to some extent, theatrical releases. The company strives to work long-term on building high-quality distribution platforms and creating strong brands around the titles. A good example is the Little Mole, which has been in distribution through Tom Carpelan since 1986, and which has sold over 400.000 videos in Finland alone.
- until 2009 mostly import of children films’ rights; some theatrical releases;
- 2008 release of first Moomin film, Moomins and Midsummer Madness;
- 2010 release of the film Moomin and the Comet Chase, first 3D movie produced in Scandinavia;
- 2013 release of a 78-part TV-series Moomins, in HD;
- 2017 planned release of film Moomins at Christmas;
Animoon is an animation studio founded by Grzegorz Wacławek – an experienced producer and author, as well as director. We aim to continue the tradition of author’s driven animation in Polish cinema and promote the work of young and talented animators.
At Animoon we produce animated series for young audience and adults and specialize in adult-oriented animated films intended for online streaming. We invest and aim to develop our own brands like animated series Bear Me, The Ant Gets married and Hug Me. The series and films from our portfolio are mostly character-driven stories with a twist of comedy, often based on the Polish picture books for children. The biggest project in the store is a stop motion, feature length film called The Pelican to be directed by Magda Osińska. The project has received support from the Polish Film Institute and has already gained some interest of broadcasters and distributors in Poland. Fennec and Silly Billy and his Great Adventure Quest are two other feature films that we currently develop. We are also the producer of artistic short films including award winning Impossible figures and other stories II by Marta Pajek.
Pelican Capture aka SMODO is the motion capture technology for an animated puppet developed by us.
